I should start by saying this post may not apply to everyone. Actually, when have any of my posts applied to everyone? Ummm. Never. But anyone with thick, amazing, voluminous hair. . . .just stop reading right now. This post isn’t for you. At all. Those of you with fine/thin hair, which never offers up the volume that you dream about. . . . this post is for you.
I fall in that category. The girl with fine hair. I have lots of it. Lots and lots. But it’s fine and stick straight. All. The. Time. And do you know what fine hair brings. Flat. Flat, flat, flat hair. Every product that claims to offer volume? I’ve bought it. Some of them twice. (And I’m not even going to get into the “curl” discussion on this post. We’ll save that for another day.) But a couple of years ago, someone turned me on to a product that actually really does give my hair volume. Lots of it. And guess what. Later in the day when it gets a little flat, all I have to do is rub it and poof. It’s full of volume again.
What is this magic product, you ask? It’s called Powder Puff by an Aussie named Kevin Murphy. He has a whole line of hair care products and I’ve used a few his other things (shampoos and conditioners) and they were ok. But this Powder Puff is off the charts awesome. Here are the benefits listed for Powder Puff on Kevin Murphy’s website: Creates Volume, Dry Matte Texture, Weightless, Metamorphosis Product, Apple, Plum, Cranberries and Citrus extracts, Setting lotion encapsulated in a sphere of powder. I’d say so! Yes. Yes. And yes.
He’s even got a video on the website to show you how to use it. Which is where you’ll need to go because I forgot to bring my Powder Puff with me on my trip. Thank goodness the cows don’t care if my hair is flat. So, no photos of my hair from this week. The old picture above and the video on his site will have to do.
And you should watch the video. Because a little of this stuff goes a long way. The bottle is tiny and at first, I thought wow – that’s a lot of money for such a tiny bottle. But trust me – it doesn’t take much. Just sprinkle a little onto your hair where you want the volume (for me that’s at the crown and on the sides). I tend to sprinkle it at the roots, where I really need the volume to start. Then I rub it in. And poof. Volume! And when I want to “reactivate” it. I just give it a rub. And poof. Volume! Again!
So all of you fine-haired gals (and guys, if you’re still reading) what do you use to get more volume in your hair? Tell me in the comments. And if you don’t have a go-to product, go get some Powder Puff. You’ll thank me. So, I’ll just say it now. You’re welcome.
