It’s grey and chilly in North Carolina today. It’s the kind of day, growing up in the Midwest, that I used to struggle with for weeks on end. The grey skies and lack of sun used to really get me down. It’s amazing what a little light or a kind word or thought can do to your mood and how depressing it can feel. That’s one of the reasons I post the Daily Brain Vitamins here each morning. If your day starts out crummy, that doesn’t mean it has to stay crummy. You can turn it around. It’s been scientifically proven that you can enhance your own mood.
And now, because it’s the century of the “app” there’s an app for that. Some cool folks got together and started an app/platform (that just means you can access it via all your devices, including your computer) that’s all about helping you to be happy. It’s called. . . . . <wait for it>. . . . Happier. I found it a few weeks ago and I’ve been exploring it when I have a few minutes each day ever since.
The main premise is that you share the happy moments of your day and you now have a place to collect them. You can connect to friends to see their happy moments and you can even see those of strangers or folks nearby (if they choose to make their posts public).
But the real win here are the courses. They’ve teamed up with experts to offer classes in all kinds of stuff to help increase your happiness. Seven Happier Habits – that’s a free course (as many are). Seven Self-Confidence Meditations – another freebie. And remember Carson Kressley from Queer Eye For the Straight Guy? He teaches a course called Confident Style. You get lifetime access to the courses you pay for you and can take them at your own pace. Many are seven days in length.Just enough time to turn things around and maybe hope for the sun again.
The Happier staff even looks happy (most of them do – what’s going on Rob Gant?). Proof enough for me that just working there can make you happy. Now I’m off to sit under my infrared light (more on that in a Trendy Wendy pots coming up) and pretend it’s the sun and then take the next installment on my Happier current course. Because This Is The Life I Have Chosen. And I choose to be happy. You’re welcome.
